First wd2000jb from www.outpost.com:

Within four days, 2 clicks and subsequent computer crashes.

Second wd2000jb from western digital RMA:

Upon formatting, loses 14% of its capacity immediately. This is 14% on top of the usual 7-10% that is normally lost.

Third wd2000jb from western digital RMA:

Crazzzy clicking right from boot up AND loses 14% of its capacity immediately after formatting. Again, on top of what is usual.

Now, I've read reviews, including those from users on this forum as well as on newegg, and I'm sure people have wonderful experiences with this drive. I can only wish that I had such a good experience with it, but instead, it has been the biggest single headache my computer has ever caused me. I'm only sharing my own experiences with this particular drive. By the way, I have a wd800jb that works flawlessly.

So for those who are considering this hdd, you might consider two wd1200jbs or something similar.

Maybe you got them all from the same batch of producing them, and they all turned out to be bad in that batch of hard drives, it happens from time to time but rare.

As you may know, Storage Review is running a reliability survey. I happened to check it this morning, and they now have enough reports on the 2000jb to rank its reliability. Their ranking? The ZEROth percentile! By comparison, the notorious 75GXP is the 17th percentile. These rankings evolve over time as new information comes in, but the clear suggestion is that there is a problem with these drives. I am none too happy about that, since I am using one at this moment.
