Problems when playing HL2

So, recently I reformatted my harddrive, etc. Installed HL2 again and started to play it.

Problem is sometimes inbetween, it just hands, the textures go like RGB (like in a very small part of the screen i see the freaking rainbow.)

Although, before I reformatted and stuff I was able to play it just fine.

My system specs are:

P4 2.4 ghz
768 MB RAM
eVGA 6800 forceware version 78.01

Any idea what could be wrong?

Could be overclocking, could be temps, could be a problem with video card drivers...any number of things. Start with the ones I mentioned.

Prob with the game. Nothing you can do but save and quit and reload. Same thing happens to me - all reflections turn purple sometimes.

Make sure the fans in your PC (video card, intake, and exhaust) are working.

Take a screenshot with print-screen next time you see it. Could be artifacts, some mipmap screw up, corrupted texture, or something else.

anyone noticiing a theme with your rigs here? You're all running 6800s. The game was theoretically optimized for ATI cards, perhaps that's part of it, but I doubt it's on purpose. I agree, you should take some screen shots and forward to Valve and get them to patch it. If there's 3 of you all with the same problem and all with the same card I'd say there's an issue that needs to be addressed.

I have to restart the comp manually, so taking a screen is not possible.

I have reinstalled the drivers and am going to test it out with that.

Thanks
