Hi guys,

Well when my HD4870X2 died and needed an RMA, i was using a 9800GX2.

This migration was fairly smooth.

However problems happened when i got my HD4870X2 back.

I did a clean wipe of my drivers, and installed CCC, however, problems started happening.

Games kept crashing, left and right. I used a registry editor to even clean out my registry and problems still arose.

To fix the problem i needed to reformat my computer and wipe any trace of nvidia.

Was wondeirng if anyone else experienced the same issue?

I got lucky this last time when I changed from a 9800GX2 that I had been using for a while to my current 4870 tri-fire setup. I had no issues when running driver cleaner.

But back when I had my ATI 9800XT and went to a 6800Ultra AGP, I had to reformat it caused me so much grief.

im thinkn something in forceware doesnt like the 2 gpu's the HD was.

i would sometimes lose my second display, which lead me to think it was something with my old forceware drivers i thought i had, and somehow the computer thought my ATI was running SLI.

i have had it go bad either way .. and also work in both directions

i do not think there is a rule to it; but if you have made a lot of profiles and especially use Nhancer, you may have issues going to ATi without a reformat
- i solved it by having 2 identical HDs .. one for ATi and one for Nvidia :p
.. then i just image the HD when i need to

but then that IS a bit extreme

maybe nv or sti has a cleaning utility to clean out hooks. I would recommend using CCleaner to clean out garbage configurations after your uninstalled the drivers next time. once a while this occurs to me when I update drivers and the new one doesn;t work due to some leftover registry hooks, used ccleaner and it fixed it.
