I have two switches, 1 8-port and 1 5-port. I cascaded the two switches together so that I would be able to connect more computers to my network. I have a DHCP server connected to the 8-port switch. The switches are linked together using a cross over cable. Computers connected to the 5-port switch is not able to lease ip address from the DHCP server on the other switch. This does not happen to win ME computers. WIN XP/98 computers are not able to obtain ip address from the server. Does anybody knows how to overcome this problem? Thanks.

If your either of your switches has an uplink port, then don't use a crossover. Use a straight-thru cable from one uplink port to a regular port on the other switch.

Also, if you make your own cables, make sure you wire them correctly for 100Mb.
