Problems w/ WD 120GB Drive, Dell 4550, and BIOS

I got a Dell 4550 i picked up with the 20GB HD. Well, it didn't take me long to fill that up so i got one of the WD 120GB SE Caviar drives. Problem is, the BIOS doesn't support the drive and i can't figure out a way to work around it. I updated to the latest Dell BIOS but the drive is still un-supported. What's the best way to work around this? I'm on XP Pro BTW.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

I have the 4550 and a WD 120gb SE and it works fine. Put the jumper on Cable Select (which is odd, but it works!) 🙂

Even when i have the drive on cable select it won't allow me to access the drive in XP. In the device manager it says "This device is working properly." and there are no conflicts. Although, i still can't access the drive. Help?

Oh! Your drive needs to be signed and formatted by Windows.

Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Right click your drive (shown hopefully) and Sign/Format it. Then Windows will display it in Explorer.
