Anyone know why with this new card, my computer keeps freezing in XP and randomly restarts?? (pretty much every time im using it, now it even restarts as soon as it hits windows sometimes)

Im using the Detonator Detonator 4 Version 23.11

Keep getting this error: The display driver for NVidia Geforce2 GTS/Geforce2 Pro seems to be responsible for the system instablity.

While getting this error, i also get another one: Your system has recovered from a serious error.

Im running this on an EpoX 8HkA

As soon as I rolled back the Windows XP Drivers (the ones included with the OS), the computer is stable....

EDIT: Nevermind, still getting the "The system has recovered from a serious error" but its not restarting on its own...

Ok, well heres what i did so far (in the order of how i did it)

Tried different detonator drivers, nothing worked... (all restart and recover from Serious Error)
Updated my 4-1 (only gave me the option to install 2/4 when i ran setup)
Updated my AGP Gart Driver
Updated my Bios
Turned my AGP Aperature to 64 (was 128)
Turned my AGP to 2x
Then i tried all the detonator drivers again, no luck... Restarting on its own
Next i tried using the NVReffix Drivers, seemed to work at first... Now im getting the recovered from a serious error again and it freezes...

Im going to try the latency patch now, but im not to optimistic... :( Any other ideas???

Did you turn AGP fast-writes off in your bios? If not, try it. That was the solution to every problem I had with that card...

Ok well this is what i did now...

I removed the Latency Patch, and used Windows XP Update to get new drivers.
Same problems... Seems to freeze ALOT when i hit the Start Button or go to shutdown, then it restarts on its own...

2 Things ive noticed... When displaying the Windows XP Pro (Loading) boot up screen, the monitor flashes blue for a second right towards the end of it... Also, when i have any drivers other than the ones included with XP installed, when i go to properties of the video card and click Color Correction, the screen flashes the first time i go there. Not sure what that means...

Anything else i can try??

Still Freezing, then restarting...

Almost always occurs if i hit the Start Button more than 10-15 after XP has finished loading...

try a reformat reinstall with only the basics then add items to see if its incompatible hardware

add the items one at a time and completely check everything as you install before going to the next item

do not load anti virus or any unnecessary programs till you are up and running

you may try reseating ram but be careful to put it back in the right way(you might try just 1 module at a time or even swapping modules to see if thats your problem

hope this helps

my radeon card suffered the same fate
first time i solved it by reformatting and reinstalling but only using absolute necessary drivers took 2 times reformatting and reinstalling to get proper installation configuration and order of drivers

hope this helps

The viaarena.com site suggested trying the 21.83 WHQL drivers and they work perfectly.. Still testing total stability, but ive made it more than a minute and im running 3dmark2001 with no probs. :)
