Does any of you guys have THESE problems? Lines going across the screen in gameplay? During Installation, the Optional Data unable to install. 8-bit *something or other* tested as failed. E-mails going to Squaresoft returned by automated non-humans. Phone number support is a long distance toll call, or $1.** / min to ask questions. I am a big fan of Final Fantasy, but I guess they're still pioneering the computer industry. I own both versions of FFVIII, but the PC version is giving me a headache. In the automated e-mail response, I did receive an answer stating that the lines during gameplay was due to incompatibility issue with GeForce2. Well, I've changed to a Radeon AIW (thanks Hawk) and nothing changes, same problemS.

8-bit pallette feature is kinda old & hardly any videocards support this anymore. This feature worked with my intel 740 videocard & the ati rage also supported this awhile back with their older drivers, but when you upgrade to their latest drivers this feature is gone, my tnt2 ultra doesn't pass the 8bit feature either. You should try to install the game on some elses computer with directx 7.0a installed, if it works on another computer & not yours, then you will know for sure it's a software problem with your computer. Changing videocard hardly fixes any problems unless the display problems occurs in other things as well, changing to a Radeon, Voodoo5 or whatever card someone reccomends is a waste of your money, there's too many people supporting one thing & think everything else is bad, nvidia followers hate ati & 3dfx, & ati followers hate 3dfx & nvidia, people who own pc hate consoles, people with consoles hate pc. I will give you a cure for all this madness, hand them a warm glass of shut the hell up, just read reviews & trust your own judgements before anyone elses, unless that someone looks like an exact clone of you!

yeah. try looking in drivers for something like 8 bit textures (obviousuly) and also "palettized textures". disable these. you may run into problems with really old games, buts its unlikely.

You actually Needed 8bit Palleted Textures for Final Fantasy VII (yes 7). The latest videocard with this feature is the good ole ATI Rage 128, but the option is gone in the latest drivers.

For final fantasy 7, they had a fix for the Nvidia cards (the patch for Riva TNT is a patch for all nVidia 128bits cards, from the Riva 128 to the Geforce2)

I do not know if they have a similar patch for Final Fantasy 8, but it could solve your problem.

FF7 was distributed by Eidos However, and it seems that SquareSoft (or EA, can't remember who distribute this one) are less preoccupied by their PC customers than Eidos where.

OK, I just searched and EA seems to have a patch that could help.

Just go to Electronic Arts Support Page, then click on patches, Enter Final Fantasy and it should lead you to the 1.2Patch download page.

Be sure to choose the 1.2 GeForce version

Hope this help,

Enjoy the game!
