Problems w/ AGP4x

A few months ago I started building my new rig for college, and I decided to go for the whole haul which (at the time) was the GeForce 2 Ultra. I bought the Creative 3D Blaster Annihilator 2 Ultra to go with my Abit VP6 mobo, running Win2k SP2 and a couple *nices. After enabling AGP4x mode in the BIOS, I would check the Creative "Blastercontrol" taskbar applet to check the vidcard stats, and it always says that I'm running the vidcard at 2x AGP. Moreover, I only have the choice of 1x and 2x AGP. I think that game performance is affected by this, and I have no idea what the deal is. If anyone could shed some light on this I'd greatly appreciate it.😕

First your performance shouldn't be affected by it. 2X and 4X in today's games doesn't really show any improvement. If the vid card access or write to the main RAM, there is a hugh performance hit, although 4X suppose to suffer less, but you still see the hit. e.g stutter when enter a new room. Since you having a GF2Ultra, you shouldn't be experiencing any sort of those problem.

edit : the setting is in some software if not automatically set it to 4X. Check manual that comes with it.

I had a simular problem with my Creative tnt2 Ultra. I think that it is just the Creative software. After I just started using Nvidia detonators it all seemed to be ok. Check out guru3d.com for some other good tweaking tools (nvtweak)
