Problems using router with my modem

Hey. I recently moved, and for the first few days things went great. Had my wireless router tucked away in a corner, and the computers were connecting great, and speed was up. After 5 days though, i noticed dropped connections, if i could get them at all. Called the cable company, and their technicians determined that there had been a spike in one of the values (whatever that means), and that they'd have to run a new line (instead of split in house) to my suite to get it working again. However, a technician reset my modem over the phone, and now my computer can connect to the internet if it's hooked directly to the modem, but my girlfriends machine won't do it directly, and neither of us can connect through the router anymore. Any suggestions on what to do? Or should I look at sharing through the computer that connects directly still? I have no desire to have new wire run, and I'm sure the landlord wouldn't be thrilled with that.
