"The password is not valid" error message appears when you log on to Recovery Console in Windows XP

Im using the correct admin pw but it still wont go...
I am trying to reinstall windows back to its manufactured state but it wont take my own pw. THE PW i just used to log back in and post this. :/ Help pls..

Offhand I can think of a couple of reasons you might be seeing this:

1. You are using the password for an admin account you created when you installed the OS, and that admin account is actually not the built-in admin account. (If you never assigned a password for the built-in admin account, then the password is blank. In that case just hitting the Enter key should get you in.)

2. You are using a keyboard that maps differently at the standard Windows login prompt than it does at the recovery console prompt or BIOS level. My Japanese keyboard on my subnotebook does this. If I were to use certain keys to type a BIOS password, for instance, I would have to hit different keys than if I were trying to use the same password at the Windows login prompt.

Otherwise, I got nothin...

You could try doing an offline reset of the admin password; that way you know you're getting it right.

Also what is it that you're trying to accomplish in the admin console? Maybe some of us can offer suggestions for a differant approach.
