i havent played half life 2 in a while, and it asked me to install a new driver for my video card... my specs are below. i went to ati's site, and installed the new driver... but upon reboot, the computer's graphics were slow. the windows would load line by line as if the refresh rate was really slow. any idea how i can fix this? i turned the reso down and the refresh rate up to 75 mhz, but the windows still wouldnt load right. it's not just windows too, but anything in the gui was acting funny.

i also remember my friend's nvida 5600fx was having problems like this when i updated his driver, and we were not able to figure it out... any ideas how i can update my driver and it act like normal?

I have a similar rig with an AW9700pro, and seen no driver issues like that.

I suspect driver issues however.

Nforce drivers up to date?
DX9c installed?
XP SP2?

Maybe use the ATI uninstall utility in "add/remove" and try again?

The accelerated driver (Catalyst) couldn't be loaded so Windows is falling back to its default unaccelerated VGA driver. It's displaying line by line because the driver you have (Windows default) is not accelerated. For some reason ATI's driver install program isn't working on your PC. What operating system/service pack and DirectX version?

Remove every ATI driver then reboot. Still like that? It should be...THEN try to install the driver and then reboot again.

thanks... i remember having problems with ati.exe loading a while back... ever since, catalyst has never worked correctly. i used ati's catalyst remover to totally remove everything...

thanks guys
