I am currently running windows xp pro serv pack 2 and am trying to upgrade from pinnacle studio 8 to studio 9. When I try to install 9 it gives me error messages so I tried to uninstall ver 8 first then install ver 9 but I cannot unistall ver 8 without it giving me a "catastophic error" message.

Can anyone give me any help here? I am running a AMD 2500+ Barton O/Ced to 3200+ on an Asus a7n8x-dlx and 512 meg of ram.

I have tried the program installation on another comp and it worked fine.

I have tried removing serv pack 2 and have gotten the same results.

undo your oc as that might be your issue(doubtful) ..try reinstalling the original pinnacle software then after a shutdown then uninstall..gl

Uninstall and look in the registry for any entries of the program and delete them, reboot, try again.

I have tried reinstalling the original and it gives me the error:

"An installation support file ""C:\program files\common files\install shield\engine\6\intel32\ctel.dll" could not be installed."

I will try undoing O/C and see if that helps.....

I cannot uninstall the version 8 as it is...
but I can still use it.

If I go ahead and clear all references to it in the registry what happens if I can't uninstall the rest of it or reinstall anything???? will I have to just do it manually and delete all the main files on the HD?

WOOHOO!!!!!!!!

I fixed it and all is fine now.

It turns out that when I removed the overclock it worked like a charm and I installed ver. 9 and burned 4 dvds without a problem.

Once again, A BIG THANK YOU to all who helped..............:p
