I just got a new hdd because my old one died. When I boot off the windows cd and it gets to the screen whare you press r to repair, ENTER to continue, and F3 to quit, I press ENTER. When I press enter the NUMLOCK light illuminaettes and from that point the system is completely unresponsive. I know the keyboard works because It responds when I tell it to load the SATA drivers off of the floppy. I have installed windows with this exact configuration before. The only difference is the hard drive. I dont have a PS2 keyboard handy but This one should work just fine.

If you have any suggestions please let me know. thankyou

I think you should use a PS/2 keyboard. I have problems with USB keyboard even with Windows Vista, but PS/2 works fine. You can buy the cheapest PS/2 keyboard from Office Depot for around $10.

thanks for the advice but I just did a bios update and it seems to be working fine now. The funny thing is that I have installed windows in the past with the old bios. oh well it works that is what is important.
