Problems setting up a dual monitor system.

Hi there guys. I just bought a 14" old monitor for nothing and I want to use it as a secondary screen for my main system.

I'm using a Ge Force FX 5200 on a ViewSonic EF70 17" monitor and want to use the 14" Samsung on an old PCI video card I just installed, an S3 Virge DX/GX.

The problem is that on display I can't chose to configure my dual monitor setup, I only get to see my primary config.

On the device manager, I can see both video cards, but my secondary, the S3 Virge DX/GX has a yellow exclamation mark and when I open the properties, it says "This device could not be started".
This board is working OK because it was till yesterday working in an old system I have laying around.

I tried swithing this VGA card to another PCI slot and nothing, same problems.

Any ideas what would be the problem?

Thanks!

The yellow exclamation point is most likely telling you that you need to reinstall the driver.

1) Download the latest driver for that device.

2) Right click on the video PCI device and select uninstall.

3) Now go through the install process for the video card and restart. You may be asked to restart before then, but there is the chance that Windows will auto-install the driver that was giving you problems. Best thing to do though would be to read the driver install instructions given by your video card maker.

On a different note, I have a FX5200 in a HTPC and it has dual outputs. You can link 2 monitors to a single card, just usually one has to be DVI and the other is the D-15 pin sub. You can usually find an DVI-to-D15pin converter if you need two analogs.

Best of luck.

Edit: grammar

I just tried with an even older Trident 9440 instead of the S3 Virge and had the exact same problem, even with different PCI slots.

Maybe some problems in the bios regarding IRQs or some other configuration? I'm no expert in that area.

OK I solved the problem using on the bios the PCI VGA card as the primary adapter instead of the AGP, now I'm writing this on the second monitor 😀 !
