Problems securing DI-624 Wireless G Router

I have a DI-624 Router and while it works like a dream (far and fast ) without any security turned on I have an issue when I turn on any type of WEP. The client machine (presario laptop with Dlink 54G wireless card) will disconnect and reconnect with some degree of certainty every 3 minutes. Only problem with this is that it will say " Windows has found a new network , do you want to connect, press ok" And makes us press ok every time. I would prefer if it connected automatically. is there anyway to do this or does anyone have an idea as to why this happens?

Maybe an incompatibility between the router and NIC? Or bad cable?

its the recommended dlink 54G nic... bought all dlink cards and since it's wireless there is no cable 🙂
