Problems running games in 2k and XP Pro...

I recently upgraded from win98se to win2k to XP Pro (All fresh installs). Here is my situation: Games ran perfectly in 98se, when I upgraded to 2k games start ok, but then they just exit out to Windows. No error message no nothing. Just back to my desktop. Here is my system:

Athlon 1.333
Abit KT7A-RAID
XP Pro (NON beta)
384M
GF2 Pro
SB Live


I have no cooling problems or any other stability issues with my computer - just my problem when running games. I have the latest BIOS for my MB, latest nVidia drivers and everything else. ANY suggestions would be appreciated (including possible BIOS settings).
