Problems running Doom 3 in Widescreen.....

Recieved my 2005fpw today, and I want to try out some games in widescreen. Trying to get doom 3 to work, but I'm having some problems. I edited the cfg file, changed the custom width, height (set it to 840x525, half the 2005's native res, and pretty close to what I run doom at, 800x600), changed the mode setting to -1, and set the aspect ratio to 2 for 16:10. However, when I try to run the game, it lowers the resolution of windows (to what looks like ~1024x768), and runs doom in a corner of that window. Yes, I have it set to full screen. Any ideas on a solution?

the 2005fp probably doesn't support 840x525

Try it at 1680x1050 and see if it works. If it doesn't you'll have to find a lower resolution that the monitor supports.

The monitor will support 840x525 just fine, you just have to add it as a custom resolution in the video drivers usually (I've done exactly that).

The game is probably just freaking out because you told it to do a resolution that the display drivers know nothing about.

 Sounds about right.

Thanks, I ran it in 1680x1050, and indeed it ran fullscreen just fine (well, not just fine, it ran terribly on my Geforce 4, but it RAN :) ). How do I add a custom resolution?

Which driver set are you running? In mine (66.93 I think) there's a "Screen Resolutions and Refresh Rates" section, and there's an Add button there to add whatever custom resolution you want.

Yup, just found it, thanks. I added 840x525, set doom to run in it, but its still not taking up the full screen, that is 16:10 right?

The monitor may not function in full screen mode at that res. My 2001FP only uses part of the screen for certain resolutions, even if they are available to the driver.

Yeah, I exchanged a few PM's with the OP of this thread earlier tonight. It seems that for nonstandard resolutions, the monitor sort of "interprets" the resolution as something else, perhaps whichever is closest or next highest. For example, when I set my monitor to 840x525 in Aspect mode, it shows it as a 4:3 image, obviously incorrectly. What's more, the monitor's OSD actually says that the input resolution is 1024x768. I've had similar problems when trying to use 1280x720 on the VGA input and having the monitor think it's 1280x1024.

In any case, it seems that using "Fill" instead of "Aspect" fixes this (the actual display; not the OSD text), as far as I can tell. It is a strange quirk though.
