problems ripping CDs....OS issue with drives?

I'm posting this in the OS part of the forum because I think it has to do with the way XP sees my CD drive. If the mods have better plans for this post feel free to move it elsewhere. :D

My issue is that whenever I fire up EAC or a CD burning program they recognize my drive like this. I have my CD drive set as master on my secondary CD channel, it is the only device on the secondary channel. According to the screenshot from that link shouldn't my drive be listed as Adapter 1: ID: 0? I'm thinking that this is the reason EAC won't recognize an audio CD when its inserted in the drive. Using windows media player I can listen to my CDs just fine but I can't rip them.

I have an Asus A7N8X with the latest chipset drivers and BIOS.
