Problems recognizing rom/burner

Ok, lemme give you guys a lil insight on what I've done so far.
My old computer was an HP pavillion, it had a cd rom, burner, floppy, and drive on it, and the installed OS was Windows ME.

I went ahead and got most of the components for a new computer, I went ahead and bought the case, and put a new asus p4g8x deluxe motherboard into it.
I went ahead and put my old hard drive (still with Windows ME) into the new comp, the floppy drive, and my rom and burner.

I'd like to install the windows xp professional with service pack 1 that I bought onto this hard drive, but the problem is, that my windows ME is no longer registering my rom and burner (prolly a driver issue I bet.) The problem is, I think most of these driver issues (including one where I no longer have sound after putting in the new motherboard) would be fixed up by getting windows xp installed clean, a fresh start as it were. The problem though is figuring out how to do it when it won't load my roms :( Any help is much appreciated!

All you need to do is, restart, go into your BIOS, set the CDROM as the first device in the boot sequence...save you new settings, put the XP cd in the Drive and it should load on startup, you dont want to install WinXP from within WinME anyways...so as long as your Bios is recognizing the Drive its all good, you can now have a fresh install of windows XP, just backup any data you want to keep off the hard drive first!

I just gave it a shot, and interestingly enough, when it tried, it gave me the message:

"No emulation"

Then, "Press any key to boot from cd..."

And when I pressed a key, it just loaded windows ME anyways :(

Any reasoning for this?

You didn't press any key soon enough. Just keep hitting the space bar until it boots from the cd. You could also format the drive using a windows 98 boot disk.
