ok here it goes
last night was trying to get a new thing to work (an uplink to my video camera) so i tried to detect new hardware well it found some hardware and then proceeded to reinstall every piece of hardware in my computer
i had a lot of problems windows wouldn't load etc.
well i got every up and working except my vid card (stb velocity 4400) and the fact that windows now takes about 5 min to load (seriously)
i can live w/ the windows load time but the fact that i am looking at a screeen that is using 16 colors (not 16-bit, sixteen) and a resolution of 640X480
really i don't wanna reinstall windows because soon i will be building myself a new computer and then i will redo this one afterwards
ok here is what i have done i have installed the old stb drivers didn't work so i did the latest nvidia ones (the ones i normally use) well those don't work either it still shows the little yellow ! in the system profile for the video card.
really i might be able to find a PCI vid card but i dont' knwo if that will work cuz i think i have used all 5 of my pci slots
any suggestions
(one thing i have thought about is upgrading to winME ro win2k temporarily (i am running 98 no se) until i get my new rig up.)
thank you a lot for your help

Josh

unfortunately u didn't say wat ur mobos and ur cpu is. so far, what I know is that if your mobos is not intel chipset (via), probabbly the problem lies with the AGP GARTD. maybe, when windows reinstall all driver, it changed the GARTD from viagartd.vxd to vgartd.vxd. If your mobos is not an intel one, try to reinstall via 4 in 1 driver, both the agp and the miniport driver. hopefully that'll help.

Well, I guess you'd better to revert back to the setting before you uplink the videocam. How? MOVE "system.dat" "system.ini" "win.ini" "user.dat" from "c:/windows" to a new directory. it is recommended that you create the new directory on your desktop, as it is easier to access (c:/windows/desktop). Then go to "C:\windows\sysbckup". you can find the file "rb00?.cab" *=0 to 5. This is your previous registry backup. Try to find the file of which date is prior the date and time you uplink the video cam, and delete the file of which date and time is after the date and time you install the video card. After that restart the windows. When restarting, you'll be prompted about the registry error. chose to boot windows in normal mode. Scanreg will fix your registry from. If this works fine, you can try to uplink your videocam again to see if the error occurs again. If this doesn't work, copy the file that you put in the new directory back to c:/windows. THIS METHOD SHOULD NOT BE USED IF YOUR WINDOWS IS OLDER THATN WIN98. I hope that helps :)
