Problems overclocking 6950

Exhale

Junior Member
Hi everyone,
I have an XFX 6950 2GB (the non-reference version), and am having some difficultly overclocking it.
I tried MSI AB, but couldn't get it to do unofficial overclocking, so I tried Sapphire Trixx, which seemed to work well.
However, once my card hits 80*C, it starts artifacting. I have messed around with it, and it doesn't seem to be clock or voltage related, it just artifacts the second it hits 80 degrees. So my question is- Is there any throttling that could be occuring because of this temp?
I thought these cards were good for 95* stable. I am currently trying 927 mHz on the core at 1.24v. I am in GPUz, and am not seeing any throttling on the core speed, voltage, amps, memory, nothing.
Thank you for your help!
Ben

In ATItool, it has an artifact scanner, and those are yellow.

In furmark, it does not artifact, jsut crashes.

ATI Tool is extremely outdated and no longer relevant, don't use it. In addition, both AMD and NVIDIA now include power virus protection in their drivers which prevent programs like Furmark from working to their full extent, so it's also useless. Test your overclocks in games and verify that you are still getting artifacts at 80C. Better yet, push your card until it crashes. Divide and conquer, focus solely on the core first and see how far you can push it.

Are there any non-game stress tests I can use? Maybe Heaven?

If not, I only really have BF3 and Deus Ex on my PC. Should I just play in multiplayer and watch for artifacts? Will they be noticable?

Thanks
