Problems multitasking with IDE?

In another thread someone alluded to the fact that SCSI is preferable to IDE for multitasking.

I was just wondering why, and what sort of problems one might encounter multitasking with IDE.
 
SCSI can access multiple devices at once, IDE can't (e.g. you can't write into 2 IDE drives in same controller at same time, they have to take turns. With SCSI, you can write/read several devices in same tame so they don't interfer each other).

Forgive my ignorance, in the past I've always used SCSI, but I'm trying out a W2K dual-Athlon with IDE this time around.

Is this mainly a performance issue then, and not something I need to be concerned about? I.e., are most IDE controllers and drives smart enough to parse the data as needed when multitasking without generating errors (read: screwing up)?

FWIW, the specific hardware in question here is a Tyan TigerMP dual mobo, and IBM Deskstar HD.

Even thought IDE is not multitasking-capable like SCSI, it's not gonna screw up your data 🙂 IDE is just not so flexible and fast when dealing with large number of devices. There's probably no difference even in performance when you just use 1-2 HDD's and CD-R/CD-RW's. Overall, nothing to worry about 🙂
