Problems moving from WRT54B to WRT54G

Because a friend of mine is taking his WRT54B with him, I recently purchased a WRT54G for our home network. I tried running the EZ install wizard, which was fine until it could not pick up an internet connection. I tried duplicating the MAC address onto the 54G, but it did not produce a connection either. Is there a possibility I could back up the settings for the 54B and then save them to the 54G?

I should note that when I switch back to the 54B, it works perfectly. It's not the cable modem.

(The 54G is running on v. 3.0 firmware.)
 
Yep. Cycled it, turned off the modem, unhooked it, etc. Nothing worked. I tried a method that Linksys described to assign a MAC address, but nada.

Is it possible I have a bad unit?
 
Seems like cloning MAC addy's isn't the issue it used to be expcept for the modem itself. No cable provider in my area cares what the MAC of the client is, only if you replace the modem. But you could always call your provider and provide them with the MAC from the new router. That would eliminate that as an issue but I agree with the other post. Power off both the modem and the router for maybe a minute. Then bring the modem up first, then the router once the modem has initialized. And yes, it's obviously a possibility you got a DOA router and you can just RMA it but eliminate the possibilities first.
 
As far as your cable provider going by the MAC on the client, it all depends on the provider. Try cloning the MAC just to be safe. But the general practice with cable modems is the following. Power down the cable modem and unplug the power, coax AND ethernet cable. Leave for a little while and let it sit for several minutes. After about 5 minutes plug just the power cable into the modem. The router should be powered down now also. After a minute or so, screw the coax cable back on and let the modem sync up. After the modem has synced (generally about 30 seconds to a minute), plug in the ethernet cable going to the router. Once that is done, power on the router and see what happens. If that doesn't work, you may have a bad router.
