Problems moving folders out of hard drive directory/folder.

I'm having problems moving folders out of an additional hard drive(slave) I added. When I try to move a large folder(3GB) to my desktop or my other hardrive(master) I am told the process will take 4 minutes. If I take the same folder, if it is in my master hard drive, and move it instantly to the desktop or any other folder without any wait.
What is the reason for this?

I am running XP home and NTSF hard drive format.

When you move a file to a different location in the same partition I think you just change the location identifer (have no idea of the correct terms) for the file. It doesn't really move. If you are doing it from 1 partition or drive to another, an actual copying takes place from one drive to another so it takes longer.
