First let me say I'm not very familiar with power supplies and associated terminology so my apologies in advance for any mistakes.
I am building a custom rig but two of my parts are causing much confusion: the Seasonic 600W PSU and the eVGA 9800GX2.
The GX2 requires both a 8 pin and 6 pin PCIE conenction. When I purchased the PSU, I read that it had 2x6Pins and 1x6+2Pin which I assumed is the same as an 8pin. To my surprise, when I received my PSU the only 8pin to be found was the motherboard connector and the rest were 6pin PCIE connectors. So does the PSU simply not have a dedicated 8pin PCIE connector and really just has two 6 pins?
The bigger problem now is to get the GX2's 8pin connection hooked up. I read on a couple of forums that suggest a 6 pin to 8 pin adapter. There were mixed reviews on how well these actually worked so I was wondering what your guy's opinion on this is.
The GX2 did come with a male 6pin to female 8pin adapter. I took a look at it and its pretty much an 8pin connector head without the black and brown wires (grounding I think). Essentially, this is a 6pin connector. Does this mean I can connect two 6pins to the GX2 and be okay?
Thanks for taking the time to read this guys.
