Intel D815EGEW motherboard
Pentium III 1.1GHz
384MB SDRAM (1x128MB, 1x 256MB)
20GB WD Caviar hard drive
10x DVD-ROM
CD-RW drive

Whenever I try to install Windows (either XP or 2000) during the initial file copying it keeps telling me that it can't copy a file. It seems to be a random file each time but a couple pop up again and again. I've tried different IDE cables, my DVD+\-RW drive, a different hard drive (working 4GB Seagate) and changing BIOS settings, including resetting to defaults, two different XP discs, and nothing seems to help. I'm left with thinking the motherboard or at least the IDE controller is dead, anyone have another opinion?

I used to have that problem often......believe it or not, all you need is a newer optical drive...

No, I took the memory out and used the old 10x DVD drive in the machine and it's running now.
