Problems installing windows 8 preview. Is it worth it?

So for some reason it won't let me install past 34% or something before telling me that there is a problem and cancelling the whole thing. I even tried on my laptop which uses ubuntu, starting all over after wiping the drive. No luck. I'm not sure why it has this problem, but I don't want to wipe my desktop to start fresh. First off, am I doing anything wrong? I made an ISO drive on both a dvd and flash drive and neither worked. My second question is is it even worth the trouble? I've heard mixed things about windows 8 but wanted to give it a try anyway. If this is gonna be a lot of work or if it will mess with my files then I don't want to go through the trouble. Any advice would be appreciated.

Sorry forgot to mention my desktop uses windows 7 and I completely reformatted my laptop when trying. Also I downloaded the 64 bit version of windows 8.

You'll never know if it's worth it if you can't install it. Did you do a hash check to confirm that the ISO image you downloaded wasn't corrupt, before you burned it to DVD?

64-bit (x64) Download (3.3 GB) Sha 1 hash: 0xD76AD96773615E8C504F63564AF749469CFCCD57

32-bit (x86) Download (2.5 GB) Sha 1 hash: 0x8BED436F0959E7120A44BF7C29FF0AA962BDEFC9

Are both your PC and laptop capable of running the 64-bit OS? What burning software did you use to burn the ISO image to DVD?

Being specific about what hardware you're running, and explaining in a bit more detail the steps you've taken thus far, would make it a lot easier for forum members to help you.

I installed it as a VM in VMWare Player. Works fine.

You can't bitch about it unless you actually give it a fair try.

To answer your question, IMO, yes. That is, if you want an opinion of it that is based upon experience and comparison. Once I got past the Metro interface, I enjoyed using it, for the most part. Time will tell whether it will fly as a successor to Win7, which is, IMHO, the best OS I've yet used, and I've tried 'em all.
