I have just installed a new Umax scanner, and the software that came with it (Vistascan, VistaShuttle, Copy Utility, Pagemanager, PageType, and Omnipage) hung during the install. I tried several times and eventually decided to Ctrl-Alt-Del and saw that a couple of programs (looked like they were related to the installer....inst1234 (example)) were not responding. After a long wait, I tried to abort the installation and start over but after shutting down these programs that were not responding, the installation started again, so I let it do it's thing.
When I started one of the programs it didn't have all the buttons it should have and didn't work correctly, so I figured it was due to the faulty installation and tried to uninstall them. It wouldn't let me do that because it couldn't find a file (looked something like unst1234). I then tried to reinstall the programs and the whole process repeated itself.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can successfully install this software? FYI I normally shut down any programs running in the background when I am installing anything new.
Any advice would be appreciated.
