Problems installing SP2 on XP Prof

Hi!

I got some problems installing SP2 on XP Prof SP1 on a quite old Compaq Pressario (350Hhz). The installation seems to stall on "Creating resore point" and there is no chanse to cancel the installation without killing the process.

Anyone notice this problem? Any fixes?

64 GB, so that should not the problem. The RAM (256 MB) could cause it to be slow, but not hours...

Was the hard drive grinding away at this point? How long did it seem to be stuck at creating a restore point?

No, the HW seems to work properly. The installation seems to be stuck for ever. I left it at the office at 17.00 (after ca 2 hours of hanging) and I won't be surprised if it still hangs tomorrow morning.

I have no idea if this will solve your problem, but it's worth a try:

go my computer / properties / System Restore

enable system restore (check the box) and make sure maximum space is provided for restore points (slider all the way to the right)

Good Luck

Hi Bugler!

Yes and no. It just work the other day. I have no ide why or how, but the computer was set to update it self (an error from my sida) and during the night it was fixed. ;-)

Sorry, but I cant help you more than that.

I have sometimes found that when doing updates sometimes a box pops up asking to confirm something(are u sure you want to install, do you want to reboot now, etc...). I have often starred at my screen for an hour or two waiting for the bar to continue doing whatever it's doing and then I realize that there was a prompt that came up that I didn't see that was minimized. Sometimes it shows up in the task bar, sometimes you gotta alt-tab it a few times. This has happened to me 3 times and Now if I'm doing an update or anything and it just stops, I check to make sure there wasn't a prompt that I missed that it's waiting for me to accept or something.

Just my 2 cents.
