Problems installing OS X 10.2

New to this but please help me. Anyways, the system had OS 9 on it previously. Put cd in and strarted installing the 10.2 and chose to format the complete drive and erase all and install clean copy. Formatted using the Mac extended type. All is well until it ask for cd two and about 1/3 of the way through on the progress bar the computer reboots, hangs, monitor cuts off, and the video never comes back. It just sits there and does nothing. Please help me fix this and give some ideas. Thanks in advance for assistance
