Problems Installing new video card..help!

Hey everyone...

I just bought a new PNY 6800GT, obviously excited about getting it in.

I took out my old ti4600 and replaced it with the new card, only to hear a loud beep continously when I tried to boot up with the new video card.

I'm rusty...what does that mean?

I am running an Abit IC7-G w/ a P4 2.6

is the card somehow incompatible? am i screwed? or am i just overlooking something?

any help appreciated, thx 🙂

OMG I AM AN IDIOT, I DID NOT EVEN SEE THE MOLEX CONNECTOR

OMFG
OMFG
OMFG

I will brb, ill post results...if i am posting from the new card you can slap me with a trout, sonic 😛

Right. Make sure you have a seperate molux connector pluged into it, with nothing else attached to it! Very important.

Also, make sure the card is seated correctly.

Heh! 😛

We all do it sometime!

grrr....as you might note from the time between posts, it didnt go well.

so give the card some power. I boot up, the beep continues for a moment then stops. It seems as if the beeping is coming from the card itself? but what do i know, im half deaf...

anyways......I get a normal POST beep, but I am greeted with a bunch of garbled, multicolored squares instead of my regular bios screen, i try rebooting and see some black and white, moving static.

The card is getting power..the onboard fan is running. I tried using a DVI adapter, as if that would help anything 😛

I am pretty sure that i did not fry the card (if it is possible in seconds like a cpu) as i never left the comp running for more then 2 seconds.

Anyways...this is obviously beginning to get frustrating. If anyone feels like chiming in... =]

Try reinstalling your old card and flashing your bios to the latest revision. Several motherboard manufacturers have new bios revisions that include updates for the 6800 line of graphics cards.

you know...my PSU escaped me at the moment...I think it is a 350 watt, is that sufficient?

i will try the bios flash, thx =]

Good luck with the bios flash. It fixed several problems I had with my 6800gt. I don't think it's your psu wattage, as the system wouldn't likely beep like that if that's what it was - that sounds more like a bad post. And pretty much any beep you get is going to come from the PC speaker I think. It would just randomly lose power most likely if it were insufficient wattage. If flashing your bios doesn't work, I have read that some people had luck with isolating the card on a single power supply chain by itself, which I think is theoretically supposed to give it a more stable flow of power.
