Problem:
"A disk read error occurred
Press Ctrl+alt+del to restart"
When using AHCI mode.

Here is what I did:
Cleared the cmos
turned on pc > Went into bios > Changed ICH SATA Control Mode from IDE to AHCI > F10.
Boot to windows disc (OS: Windows Ultimate 64bit OEM)
Clicked next > Install Now > accept license terms> custom install > choose vertex 2(only drive) > Installing windows (copying windows files/expanding windows files/installing features) > it gets to the restarting in 10 second window, restarts.
Then it attempts to boot to the vertex2 and gets the error (double checked by using boot menu to boot to it)
"A disk read error occurred
Press Ctrl+alt+del to restart"

After this occurred I hooked it(vertex2) up to my other machine with a intel g1 and intel RST with ahci enabled. downloaded firmware tool for 1.10 and came to find it already has firmware 1.10

I then hooked it back up to my new machine, went into bios and changed it to IDE mode, it boots up and continues the install.

Mobo: X58A-UD3R
6GB coresair XMS (OCZ really filters cor sair)?
Stock settings (brand new pc)

Why am I getting the error when using AHCI mode?

Edit: Once the install finished I went into regedit HKLM/CCS/services/msahci changed start to 0 restarted, set bios to ahci. restarted, same error a disk read error occurred.

edit2: Went back into bios, set back to ide mode, boots right up. went into regedit start is still set to 0.

edit3: while in windows under ide mode i attempted to install iata96enu.exe, error: This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software

just got home a bit ago, i was using the corsair 800d sata panel which was the cause of the issue. everything is functioning happily now.

iata96enu now installs as well. Odd quirk, I wonder if its a common problem or a fluke (about the 800d sata panel)
