problems in gaming

1. Publishers largely only care about console
2. Multiplats sell much more on console
3. Consoles are a controlled environment
4. Consoles are underpowered, and the games often are more expensive
5. PC has the potential for best graphics but the numbers who maintain cutting edge rigs is still far too low to be a dependable revenue stream for publishers
6. Online gaming on PC is spread too thin, because there are so many games the populations decline quickly, only few hardcores remain, barrier to entry becomes high for noobs
7. eg. 500,000 online playing Battlefront on PS4, less than 1/10th that on PC, less than 1/10th that playing on cutting edge rigs

I feel like I need a PC for single player games and a console to play AAA multiplats online, but I adamantly dislike these new systems.

Am I the only one frustrated by this situation?

Hmm in my experience PC communities last a lot longer than console ones online, hell you can go find BF1942 servers if you still want to play that. I've been playing some mass effect 3 online recently and have had no problem finding games.

Case in point - I bought COD Advanced Warfare on PC and while I had better graphics/performance than console, I was never able to play anything but Team Deathmatch.

I don't care, I own a PC, an XB1, and a PS4. I'll play what I want where I want.

People gravitate to a console because they don't have to fiddle with video cards and drivers and settings etc etc. It's really that simple and no consoles are not going anywhere. They've sold enough to prove that. A lot of touted sales of PC games is for FTP microtransactions and indie shovelware. Retail released titles are not always favoring the PC. There have been games on console that make 500Mil and upwards of a billion dollars in sales in less than a week. That has never happened on the PC that I'm aware.

That shouldn't matter though. Like I said, play what you want where you want. Nobody should care whether it's a console or a PC and whether or not it will ever show up on one or the other. There's many very high quality games out there.

18-22 years on, and there are still Doom 1-2 & Quake 1-2 servers out there.

That may be the crux of the problem. Most developers don't want online communities that last longer, they want last year's game to be replaced by this year's game.

Remember Far Cry 1? The original? Remember it was single player with a lengthy story that went somewhere? Its 2015 and what else is similar? Why are there only 5hr shooters that are really all multiplayer?

Same issue with other COD games.Luckily i think COD does Team Deathmatch good enough that it isn't a problem but a variety would be nice.

I guess it could worst like scavenger mode in BF3 which essential has been dead along with domination and any maps that run on DLC maps like Close Quarters.Hell CQ ended up being free at one point and it still died.

You have some fun games like TitanFall which exploded on console, died on pc.Check your hours and hope someone is on lol.Ironically the last time i played i got lucky after waiting 15 mins then landing in a game to find a hack running about with full invincibility.o_O

You're playing the wrong games. Newer Multiplayer online shooters don't last long on PC because they took out all the things people liked about them and added all the consolization stuff (and leveling), and the ones that DO play them are the short attention span people who buy every iteration and move on in 3 months to something else( which is exactly what they want).

Games like quake, CS, and all the old arena shooters are still alive and kicking - albeit in smaller quantities these days. You can't say that about COD 32.

I just ignore them all now. Plenty of other creative pretty awesome games out there to play. As for the new consoles, that remains to be seen. For the most part they are just watered down over hyped targeted ad systems with the majority of the same games. You can say that about PC's but at least your options and flexibility are greater overall.

Nothing frustrating about it. I learned to let exclusives go. For every TLOU there is one gem exclusive to PC. And there aren't too many TLOU level of games out there, even if you own both consoles.

I feel like OP is 10 years too late with this thread. Back then things looked grim with PC versions cut while games launched on both consoles.

If anything, now there is a trend of PC ports coming back, MGS V for example. PC first development usually implies a PC exclusive game, anything that's on consoles too is more than likely to have been primarily developed for xbox1 and ps4. Yet there are many developers who put in an actual effort to make the PC version look better beyond enabling custom resolutions and refresh rates.

In less than a year, 980ti and Fury will be replaced by their successors. 980ti performance will be driven down towards the $300 mark while the ever widening gap between the now aging console chip vs. GPU progress will tempt devs to take advantage of it.

I'm not worried about the PC, not with Star Citizen about to break $100m.

TL;DR It's all good in the PC hood, learn to let go of AAA

Personally I have more games than time, so not really a problem. And the games I play are not normally on consoles, so it doesn't matter to me. I mostly buy AAA titles on steam sales when all bugs are squashed out and the price is good. For online gaming i mostly play Co-op with friends, so the online community is not really a problem.

Atm in SP I try to get through Alien:Isolation without a nervous breakdown next up is Wolfenstein and Shadow of Mordor, all games bought at 75% discount.

For MP it is World of Battleships, Vermintide and Company of heroes + some other co-op shooters.

So lots of great value, but little time to play them all.

This. You are seeing much lower Battlefront numbers on pc because most knew it was SBMM only, along with a few other reasons.

Seriously, I have way more games than time to play them all these days. So, I see no problem with how things are right now.
