Problems hooking up AppleTV to older TV

GasX

I just hooked up my gen1 apple tv to my old 27" Panasonic Tau flat screen tv. I used component video and audio cables due to the old TV not having HDMI inputs. I get a perfect audio signal, but the video is just multi-colored snow. What are the possible causes of this?

Crowded cables? They do have to all go through a small hole in back of cabinet.
Broken TV? The other inputs work fine.
Broken Apple TV? It worked flawlessly on my other TV
Broken cables? Fresh out of a new box...

hmmm... Anyone have any advice for further trouble shooting this?

The multi-colored snow thing was happening to me when I was connecting an Xbox 360 via component and it ended up being a swapped color (had blue in green on one side and green in blue on the other side)
