Problems getting Diskeeper Pro to move page file to front of drive

I kinda messed up here. I set a new page file size before I ran the boot-time defragmentation. Now my page file is sitting three rows down on the far right side of the drive map and Diskeeper skips the boot-time defrag since its already contigious. I take it this will hurt peformance a bit, but by how much? Should I try and fragment the page file on purpose so it does the job?
 
your page file is never read as a single file. It doesn't matter how fragmented your page file is, It will most likley never hurt performance. Plus most defrag utilities will not show you the correct information as to where the file is on your drive. Also, at least on NTFS, defraging a hard drive really doesn't do as much for you compared to fat32. I have 4 defrag programs, each one shows me a different graph as to where my files are. Windows defrag says the page file is in the middle, another says its closer to the begining, etc. The important thing is that it really is defraged. Personally I perfer dirms for my defrag because its fast and appears to do a good job.

So dont worry, chances are you have 1 gig of ram and hardly ever use your page file. And even if you do, your not using more then a few meg at a time, so it doesn't even matter if its defraged. Its just a rumor to sell your more products you dont need.
 
Id agree defrag in general is probably overrated but from what ive read the actual placement of the page file can make a difference in performance due to access times. Diskeeper from what I understand is pretty accurate in its placement. So my concern is I fubared the thing by having it placed 4 or so gigs on the other side before I could have it defragged and placed properly. So Im looking for a suggestion on how to get it back toward the front of the drive. If I could fragment the pagefile on purpose somehow maybe that would get Diskeeper to do its dirty work.

I do have a gig of ram but for whatever reason it always digs in the pagefile, sometimes 30-40 megs after prolonged use or during a game.
 
If it's an NTFS drive you don't want your pagefile at the beginning of the drive. Your MFT is near the halfway point between the outer cylinder and the spindle and you'll want it close to that. If it's FAT32, then the location of your pagefile is probably the least of your concerns at this point.

Also, these pagefile/memory/disk threads get anal real fast so I may not be back 😛
