Problems formatting ps3 HDD

Ive asked many questions before, concerning similar topics.this is a problem im having

i bought one of those lovely tiger direct refurbed 60gb. and put my 320gb into it. and so on

so my current 80gb model needs to be formatted. also.. keep in mind, that i am using the 80gb with this 🙂
So im trying to format it, here are some of the steps that ive tried. i have searched for the proper way. but couldnt seem to find what i needed

1. tried to install onto a drive without it being formatted before put in
2. tried to install onto a drive that was formatted with fat32 prior to putting in (quick format)
3. same as 2. but with a full format
4.tried firmware that i had on a flashdrive already(2.60) in the special folder structure.
5.tried firmware again, but redownloaded it.
-all the while. i tried 2 differerent flash drives. and 2 different controllers during this.

i kept getting the error message that it could not read the OS, push the ps button to restart PS3 or hit start+select to install update. which ive done everytime. and everytime back to this screen.

i may even try a different HDD. but i was selling this to a friend from work. and i wanted him to have the correct drive that corresponds with the serial. i was gonna try with a 120gb drive to verify if it worked or not.

any ideas on what i can do.

well i have the day off 2morrow yay woot. so i guess ill have a project on my hands. woot for 2 tv's though.

ill let you know if i have success. unfortunately work until 630pm EST... so yeah. looking forward to RE5, good times there

ok i was able to format the other 60gb HDD i had from my other ps3... that works fine. i get to the setup screen where it wants to configure my settings for video...
