Problems during windows installation... Memory problem?

I've tried without success to install 2 different versions of windows XP (home and pro) and I cannot seem to get past the installation.

While setup is copying the files necessary for installation, I have to hit enter like 20+ times to "find" files. Usually after 1 or 2 times the file is found and the copying continues.

The installation will finally reboot and start to install windows, but I keep getting BSODs or the computer stops responding (or at least appears to be doing nothing).

Hardware:
MSI K7n2 mobo
512mb crucial PC3200 DDR
Sapphire 9600xt vid card
AthlonXP 3300 Barton (400fsb)

Are the CDs scratched?

Try a 2nd cd/dvd drive if you have another one. This worked for me with installing a copy of Vista beta a few weeks back.

Yeah, I have 2 cd/dvd drives on my computer and tried both of them.

One cd was a tad scratched, but the other is a fresh copy.

What sometimes works: Set verything to stock speeds. Leave only 1 memory stick in place. Disable and physically disconnect one of the optical drives. Try again. If it works, you can replace and reset everything.

lenjack has the right idea...

basically, try to install windows with 'fail-safe' bios settings and without ANY extra hardware installed (no ethernet cards, sound cards, usb devices, and disable all mobo devices in bios).

Personally, I've never heard of this type of problem at least while installing windows. This could also mean a bad mobo or memory stick...

Basically, try just about anything you can and hope it works. Good luck.

I removed my one memory module and cleaned the contacts. I also switched the memory slot I was using.

AAAAAAAaaaaaaand....

It worked. Thanks fellers/ladiesers
