For some reason I cannot download or install anything correctly. No matter what it is...a program downloaded from the internet or a game installed from a CD, my computer tells me that some file during the installation is corrupt or there is a bad CRC. Absolutely nothing will install correctly. Is there any explanation for this? Thanks.

I realized that on my last re-install of Windows 98, I forgot to partition the hard drive. Could this be the problem?

hmm...? shouldn't be a problem with partition.... a lot of ppl don't partition their hard drive and still runs fine...
i would think it's a problem during installation of win98....

one thing to try is to reinstall win98 on top of itself (assuming you can get pass the bad CRC problem). other than that, it's back to format c:\ and reinstall everything... :)

I've tried re-installing Win 98 at least 10 times no to no avail. Nothing I do seems to work. I really can't figure it out. I've formated and partitioned the hard drive...nothing does the trick. I'm getting pretty frustrated with the problem now cause it is basically crippling my ability to function on this computer. And it's an almost new computer, less than 6 months old!

I saw this problem once. In that situation it was because the owner had hosed the registry.

At the time I did a format/reinstall.

However, you might want to try a registry cleaner first. And you might try deleting all the files in your C:\windows\temp folder.
