Problems burning CD

I have a problem burning CDs. For burning, I generally use MusicMatch Jukebox but I've had similar problems with Nero and other burning programs. What happens is I'll be burning merrily away and everything just stops. Total system lockup. I have to reboot to get out of it. I've tried burning at speeds slower than the 8x max of my Plextor 8432 but I've made coasters at any speed. Test before burn doesn't help because I've tested sucessfully and then frozen up during the actual burn. My question is could IRQ conflicts be causing my problem? Here are the conflicts I've managed to identify:

05 - Creative SB16 Emulation
NetMos PCI 9805 Parallel Port
NetMos PCI parallel Port (LPT2)

09 - Promise Technology Inc Ultra 66 IDE Controller
IRQ Holder for PCI steering

10 - creative SB Live! Value
Intel(r) 82371 AB/EB/MB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
IRC Holder for PCI steering

14 - Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller
Primary IDE controller (dual fifo)

15 - Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller
Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo)

I'm running Win 98SE and this is what my system is:

MSI Busmaster motherboard
Pentium III 550E o/c to 733 mhz on MSI sloket
128 meg ram
Pioneer DVD-104 DVD drive
Plextor PX-W8432T CD-R
IBM 372050 Hard Drive
Asus AGP-V6800 video card with 32 meg DDR ram

Any suggestions?

How old is your burner? I had a similar problem recently. My CD-R would start burning then stop(still spinning but not burning)then shut off completely--no light, no eject, nothing. After I eventually figured out it wasn't the software. I took it out, took it apart, relubed the screw that moves the laser(careful not to scratch lens) put back together and in my comp. works perfect!
I didn't think it was the CDR at first because it would read fine, just not rec..
