I am building a new system and when I try to install Win 98 after formatting I get the message "CDR101 : not ready reading drive d".
This has a CDRW in it, shouldnt it just be recognized as a regular cd rom and go ahead and read my win 98 cd. What could be giving me this error? Thanks

Win98 cannot boot from a CDR without the CDR drivers. These are contained on your Win98 boot disk. If you don't have one, Go Here. for all your bootdisk needs. Hope this helps.

I have a win 98 boot disk. It is loading standard Oak Tech. drivers. Is it different for a CDRW?

Is the CDRW formatted or is it just a plain burned CD? I've used burned discs in DOS before and it works fine. You only need drivers for the CD-ROM. If the CDRW is formatted (using something like DirectCD or InCD), however, you'll need special drivers to read it.

The disk is an original Win 98 CD. The cdrom is a cdrw. I guess my question is do I need a different driver for a cdrw player?

No, not for loading the OS purposes. Once you're rig is up and running, you'll need the burning software (EZ CD Creator,Nero, etc) to burn, but for bootup purposes it's just a regular CD Rom. Any generic CDR drivers will do.
