Problems booting with new mem....

I picked up the Compaq tower that was on SD at Circuit Sity for $250. It's a Compaq with a E2160 and only 1GB of Ram with Vista.

So I thought an easy upgrade would be memory. So much for that thought. I bought 2x2GB DDR 800, I can't get it to boot with a 2GB stick in the first slot, it will boot with a 512MB in the first and 2GB in the second, but never the first. It recognizes the 2.5GBs correctly as well.

Quick Ideas before I have to talk to someone I can't understand at Compaq?

According to the site No-brand name RAM, but it has samsung chips and a lifetime warranty.

There isn't a single setting as far as ram goes I can adjust in the BIOS, this is a complete comapq tower.

Open up the case and see if you can identify the motherboard:
Compaq was acquired by HP many moons ago, and
they prefer to purchase OEM motherboards from companies
like ASUS. So, with the motherboard make and model number,
you should be able to locate that motherboard's User Manual
on the Internet. Then ...

RTFM (Read The Fine Manual -- not always "Fine" however)
