wow, my general (or generalized?) perception of asians especially east and southeast asians is that they do not like black people. I wonder what makes those asian families keep allowing their kids to go to a school where black students make up 70% of the students population considering the mutual animosity between those two ethnic groups.

I was sent by my college to teach at a HS that's predominantly blacks and I could only recall seeing 1 or 2 white students going there at that time out of 500+ students. All of my students there were great though. Very dedicated learners. Must be something in S. Philly public water.

big time oops. Can you move this over to P&N forum please, mod. So sorry.

Umm do you even read the article?

Its not like these families intentionally choose to go there. Their financial situation put them there.

Its rather pathetic the school is unable to do something. students still get beat up with escorts. Who is escorting them?

I'm not sure where their reasoning "gangster values" as the issue comes from instead of a race hating issue. the article implies it was all black students involved beating on asian students.

It can't be that cheap to live there vs elsewhere is it? I mean were it my family I would load my family on my back and move them to a friendlier place if I had to.

"Those (black) kids feel the majority of the staff there does not care about their education," Smith says.

LOL! oh damn, too funny..

Yet Duong Ly is still enthusiastic about his school. He says the English as a Second Language program is good, the teachers care, there are plenty of computers with Internet access — and it's all free.
"If I study hard I will get a lot of opportunities, scholarships, grants...," he says. "It's rewarding to work hard and study hard here, more than in Vietnam. I can go to a better school, go to college, get a career, then I can take care of my parents. So I like it more here."

hey black kids, taking notes?

Good for those kids. Tough people I would imagine coming from Vietnam. The abuse they take is almost expected which is really damning. Sort of a raw deal to get into the country only to have to do the hard work of integration that whites continue to avoid. This racial problem could have been settled 30 years ago if wasn't for white flight. Of course blacks are to blame, but white people had a duty to perform for their slaves and their country. And they completely ignored that responsibility of integration.

Hey white parents taking notes? Watch these Vietnamese children do the job you've forsaken.

There's that American work ethic that fewer and fewer Americans seem to have these days.

We had an intern from Vietnam about 5 years ago, he was a junior in a local Engineering program, and the kid was a machine. Outproduced the next best two interns combined, quality and quantity. His family came to the US when he was 8 with $75 and the clothes on their backs. They were still living in a not-real-nice area of town. He ended up with a full ride scholarship for a master's program at a top school. Yes, he had a decent level of natural intelligence, but the kid worked his butt off to learn everything he could in our program.

Before he got to college he was in a pretty crummy school district, but he managed to get an education while others were dropping out left and right.

Did you just try to blame white people for not wanting to send their kids to shitty schools?

Let fast forward 20 years from now. Who do you think will be productive tax paying members of society and who will be in jail/shot to dead/on probation/on welfare and food stamp/section 8 housing (and still continue to blame on whities)?

We all know the answer.

I blame whites for abandoning their schools, their homes, and their community. I blame white people who hide behind their children who don't have the honestly to admit their greatest nightmare...the Obama family for neighbors.

that ain't nothing special, I knew this friend immigrated from HK, his dad worked 3 jobs even on weekends to put him through college, he himself worked every job he could find so he can pay for himself. Still did better in college than the rest of us combined. became an architectural engineer, now working for a French firm doing city planning in Paris. Just amazing.

Well, first let me say it would be pretty cool to have the Obama family as my neighbors, I'd have a very valuable house in D.C. that is for sure!

Second, if the white people aren't part of the community, don't own homes there, and don't go to those schools, pretty sure it means that the aforementioned establishments are not theirs.

Hell screw 20. Plenty of Muslims are still hearkening back to the Crusades for justification no? I'm betting plenty of African Americans will continue blaming slavery for their problems well into the 22nd century.

I had a black friend who would always go off about slavery when any racist topic came up. It was kinda hilarious.

Anyways, what do you expect from being a minority at a school? Here in Westminster where the schools are about 90% Vietnamese, there are Vietnamese gangs that fuck with all of the other minorities as well. Where I went to school in Santa Ana it was 90% Mexican and it was the same shit. Its not even a thing about being black white asian hispanic. People tend to group up and fuck with the minority because they feel that they are more powerful.

My cousin came here from Vietnam in the late 70s early 80s and he told me the first thing all of the people his age did was group up against the majority black population that was here. Eventually after a bunch of racial gang fights over the years all of the blacks moved out.

All recent immigrants, including illegals.

All those who can't/won't work including spoiled white kids who think a rough day is a day without their blackberry.

If the Obama family wears DOO-RAGS, air jordans, and oversized T-Shirts or Jerseys, I wouldn't want them living near me either.

You should try a day without your blackberry. It is pretty rough.

This thread is about Asian students and black thugs and my comment was about those two groups.

What's interesting about the black education problem in the US is that it's not because they're black and it's not because they're a minority. It's a problem that is very specific to the US. Black people born in Canada are statistically about the same as everyone else born in Canada. stats. The income numbers are heavily flawed because most black people in Canada are first generation immigrants, but this one particular line stands out:
Canadian-born Blacks were just as likely to be university-educated as all people aged 25 to 54 born in Canada.

Alright so summary:
-Black people in Canada are intelligent
-Minorities in the US thrive
-Black minorities in the US do not thrive?!?!
