Problems!!! AHHHH! (Plextor PX-W4012A)

Ahh, damn it, I keep on running into problems when I'm building this system, first faulty ram from Mushkin.. Anyway the Plextor PX-W4012A drive doesn't seem to be working with my system - WindowsXP on AMD Athlon XP system -- It can recongnize the drive, but when I try to burn a CD, it doesn't burn, and gives me an error saying it can't burn, I have used a 24X media and tried burning at 8x, 16x and 24x, and I have tried 4 different types of media, it just doesn't work. This only happens on a CD-R Disc, but not with a CD-RW Disc.

Does a CD-RW have 2 lasers or 3 lasers? Anyway. Please help ^.^

Have you downloaded the CD-R patch from the Windows Update site? Tried a different burning application?

Unless the CD-R Update was a update recently out, then I've already got it -- I've tried using Goldenhawk CDRWin, Elby's CloneCD and Nero -- does the same thing, starts the lead-in, then it gives me an error about not being able to burn.

What mobo ya using? $in1's installed? what nero ? etc. etc

And did you even get CDRwin to recognise the drive ?? I tried a v4 version i had and it didnt recognise it...still works fine with my 8x though so its not like i cant burn bin files, id just use that....i suppose ill go download their latest if youve got it to at least recognise its a burner (its recognised as a reaader fine of course...).

Other than that, no problems here, im railing cds off at this very minute, done about 70 since i got it last week, will do about 40more tonight....im using Win XP, and an Athlon 500 on a MSI K7 Pro (all AMD, no 4 in 1's here, wahey....j/k, dont flame me Via users ).

I checked out the goldenhawk website and they updated 3.8g the other day...downloaded it, and sure enough, it works now...whereas the older 3.8g i have does not, hehe....sneaky

Abit KR7A-R133, 4in1 Drivers Installed, Windows XP as OS, Nero 5.5.7.2, CDRWin downloaded yesturday of 4.0 -- Still doesn't burn. Now I'm pretty sure the drive is defective somehow, since it seems to only burn CD-RW and not CD-R
