Problems after switching from nVidia to ATI

Two weeks ago my nVidia 8800GTX broke down. I replaced it with a ATI HD4850 (from HIS). Because my videocard was broken I had to use the ATI card to start Vista (32 bit) in safe mode to uninstall the nVidia driver. After that I ran Driver Sweeper in that same safe mode too. And then I started up Vista and installed the latest ATI driver (and CCC).

Up to now my computer worked perfectly but ever since putting that HD4850 into my computer games lock up and I get BSOD's... I get messages like 'atikmdag not responding'. When I work in Vista itself everything is fine but games give me trouble, rather randomly too.

Might this have to do with having a nVidia card before this ATI card...? Do I need to install Vista all over again? Or what else might it be? Seems like some driver problems. I mean, the card is not broken like the 8800GTX was (that one gave artifacts in 3D games and in the end completely broke down).

Uninstall that piece of shit control center and see if that clears it up.
I went through a similar transition as you. However I reinstalled the OS and got driver failures and BSOD until I uninstalled the Control Center.

So... should I use Ati Tray Tools instead or something? BTW I see no option to uninstall CCC: I can only find a ATI Catalyst Install Manager when I look at the programs I can uninstall. Maybe I should start all over again: remove all drivers and whatever and then only install the driver and after that ATT...

When you download from AMD's site you have an option for the device driver and an option for the control center. Only install the device driver. That solved most of my real issues. I still get non-stop event viewer failures that have to do with watching movies that has apparently been known about for years from ATI. But it doesnt actually cause any problems, just a bunch of error logs.
