problems adding a mac to a windows network?

we have a windows network here at work. clients are win98/2000/xp. servers are all 2000 except our citrix server which is 2003. we're using 2000 active directory. a newly hired graphic designer really wants a mac (even though we have quark, illustrator, acrobat, photoshop, etc for windows). so if i add a mac to this AD based windows network, what kinda problems is that gonna introduce? accessing the fileserver, sharing files, burning cd's (macs have a diff format i think), security permissions, AD policies, etc? is it more trouble than its worth? ive not used a mac since elementary school (yes, elementary. im 23 now.) when we had apple IIe computers in the lab so i wouldnt even be able to support it if there was problems with the mac itself. thoughts, opionions?
 
I'm not up to speed on the new OS X but I've heard that it plays pretty well in an Windows environment.

Ethernet doesn't work without MACs.

I believe, Mac OS X ships with SAMBA so it should be able to see Windows shares, and even serve files. There are plenty of docs out there on joining a domain, but I've never had to do it myself.
