Problems adding 2nd HD on WinXP pro system

I've been trying to add a 2nd HD on WinXP but having problems. No problems with Win98 but when I add on XP the splash screen freezes. If I unplug the 2nd Drive, boots fine.

Same config as Win98, using as master on secondary connector with no slaves.

I assume my second drive should have a "primary dos partition".

Any thoughts?
