Problems accessing floppy drive?

When I put a floppy disk in the drive and then try accessing it the computer shuts down and reboots on it's own. I figured it had to be either the drive itself or the power supply so I swaped both. It still does the same thing and I am completely boggled by what could be causing it. Could someone send me in the right direction.

Thanks

I had the problem initially running win98 but in trying to fix the problem installed winXP which is the current os.

Try this and see if it makes any difference. The steps I list should be the same, but I am doing this through win2k so they might be a little different.

Right click My Computer ---> Properties ----> Advanced ---> Startup and Recovery ---> Uncheck Automatically Reboot --> Apply the settings and try opening the floppy

I just tried that minendo and it still killed the computer but instead of rebooting it went to a blue screen telling me there was an error and to remove any newly installed HW componenants, which I don't have any of. Do you (or anyone else) have any other suggestions for what could be causing this problems or ways of fixing it?

I think that might have worked minendo! Thanks. I'll have to use the drive a little bit to make sure but I opened a word document from a disk with no problmes. What could cause a cable to go bad just sitting in the computer? Maybe it just got bumped and wasn't making a good connection to the MB.
