So my friend is on the phone with dell support because her computer will not show animated .gifs. so, can someone here tell me why its not showing for her before the dell guy can? he's saying its something to do with her firewall and is having her clear all of her cookies and cache...

Problem: dell support sucks
Solution: Don't buy a Dell, or better yet, don't call Dell asking them to solve your machine operator mismatch...

:p

Jsut imagine sitting in one of those call centers and getting some angry person yelling at you , telling you repeatedly that Dell sucks simply because when playing an mp3 they downloaded from kazaa in media player, they can't find the button to print out the lyrics....

perhaps if more specifics were given upfront, the CS rep wouldn't have to go through the SOP to get to the solution:

-what browser?
-do they display in other programs?
-are you using AOL?
-do you have a firewall running (zone alarm perhaps?)

you forgot one... what language the rep speaks... that would help as well...

it is definately with something in the settings in IE on your friend's account. Not a fault of Dell. Maybe restore default settings for IE (or reinstall IE) ?

EDIT: are you sure that the webpage your friend is trying to access doesnt has dead links ? did your friend tried going to multiple sites with GIF images ?
