problem xp 32 bit - load on separate drive?

My system is a xp home edition, 32 bit, on one physical hdd, drive C. Then I have another physical HDD, drive S, as my photoshop scratch disk. THen I have 3 physical HDD in a Raid 5 setup for my pictures. Yesterday I updated my gigabyte bios and ran several hours with no problem, starting it up, shutting it down, etc. Then I downloaded a backup program. I went to install it and my AV program threw up the typical warnings about installing a program. I let it install (probably my first mistake) and when it restarted it had problems. First all of my icons didn't show up. Then in my lower right window, my AV icon was there and then disappeared. A window then popped up saying it was going to shut down my system in xx seconds. I shut the system down. Tried doing a safe boot into windows, it just hangs.

So I was thinking if it would work if I install xp on drive S and boot from it. Would my other drives still be seen. If so, I could reinstall my AV and scan drive C?

Any ideas?

Thanks...

I am running the Kaspersky scan on drive C now. I finally got it to boot up in safe mode.

If I do a repair install, will that effect my raid setup or will it wipe out "my document" files?
