Heya all,

I've been having some serious headaches over my Yamaha burner (CRW8424E) lately. Well, first it works fine in Windows 98 and and Windows 2K... I just did a reformat today, and installed WinXP... Lo and behold, my drive stops working - specifically, more often than not the data that is read off any discs are corrupt. Has anybody else been having similar problems? Setup progs will crash, mp3s copied off the disc will skip, etc etc.

Help!

You might try loading a generic CD ROM driver. I have done installs where Windows fails to load a driver for a CD Drive and it causes major problems. Might be worth a try.

This might be one of those specific burners that requires you to install ASPI layer drivers , Win2k and XP don't have them included so you have to manually install them unless your using Nero which generally comes with it's own .

Hi,
Try physically removing (unplug power and signal cables to the drive) the drive, reboot XP and look in Device Manager to make sure that no CD drives are present if any are, manually remove them. Shut down and reconnect the drive cables. Drive may then be properly recognized. Also check Yamaha web site for latest Firmware and driver updates.
